Keeping your Dog safe!

Simple steps to protecting your dog

Walking your dog should be an enjoyable and stress-free experience, but unfortunately, dangers like dog attacks and theft are real threats that every owner must be prepared for. Every year, countless dogs suffer injuries or even fatal encounters due to unexpected attacks from other animals or dangerous situations. Being proactive and taking safety measures can make all the difference in protecting your beloved pet. Here are some tips to keeping your dog safe on walks:

Carry a Whistle

Dogs are sensitive to loud noises, and the sharp blast of a whistle can often be enough to stop an aggressive dog in its tracks. Keeping a whistle with you while walking or running can help you be prepared in case you encounter a dog showing signs of aggression. It can also serve as a personal safety tool, alerting others if you need assistance.

Recognize Signs of Aggression

Understanding a dog’s body language can help you avoid a dangerous situation before it escalates. Be aware of these common signs of aggression:

  • Stiff body posture

  • Raised hackles (fur along the back standing up)

  • Bared teeth or curled lips

  • Growling, barking, or deep, guttural sounds

  • Intense, unblinking eye contact

  • Ears pinned back tightly against the head

If you notice these warning signs, remain calm, avoid direct eye contact, and slowly back away without turning your back on the dog.

Carry Treats

Having treats on hand can be useful not only for making new canine friends but also for de-escalating a potential attack. If a dog is approaching aggressively, tossing a handful of treats far from you can distract it, giving you time to safely move away.

Protect Your Dog with Doggy Armour

If you're out walking or running with your dog, consider having them wear Doggy Armour. The protective coat is designed to shield your dog from potential punctures and cuts that could occur during an encounter with an aggressive dog. The coat offers an additional layer of protection, helping prevent serious injury, and peace of mind for you on walks.
